Natalie Burns ‘’Paintings of buildings in the Whitehaven area’’ 3rd May 23
In 2012, Natalie started two projects: to visit every village mentioned in Kenneth Smith’s book ‘Cumbrian Villages’, and to paint every building mentioned in Pevsner’s Guide to the Buildings of Cumberland. It’s a huge task which she has not yet completed, but on the way she has become well-known nationally and internationally for her paintings of the terraces and significant buildings of Whitehaven.
Natalie works with very specific media and her drawings – all made without the use of rulers – are accurate but also sympathetic; her ‘storybook’ style makes them hugely recognisable and in the course of her sketching she has been approached many times for commissions.
Working with the Whitehaven Heritage Society, Lowes Court, local schools and community groups, and sharing her ideas and experiences through her blog and online shop, Natalie’s drawings are gathering a keen following and images from her latest project – the letterboxes of Whitehaven – are sure to be as popular as her terraces.
