‘FROM BARROW TO BAGHDAD AND BACK AGAIN’

Philip Caine gave us a highly entertaining whistle-stop tour of his amazing career, which took him from Barrow in Furness to Baghdad and back again, via London, Paris, Aberdeen, the North Sea oil fields, Algeria, Nigeria, Kazakhstan, Dubai and almost all points in between.

Trained as a chef, Philip moved from the kitchen into the boardroom, setting up facilities for expat workers in inhospitable deserts, converting an aircraft hangar into a night club, and dealing with Russian officials to do deals with the local mafia. None of this could have been achieved without the support of the wonderful Sandra, left behind to manage houses and children and grandchildren and all of the duties which fall to the wife of a roving contractor!
At the moment Philip is back in the UK, writing a very successful series of novels loosely based on his experiences, but has he hung up his travelling shoes and put away the suitcases?
